Since I grew up wishing "please, can we get through today without something terrible happening", it's not surprising that I sometimes notice a favorable response in myself to interpersonal events, small or large, approaching zero. Zero is not natural for humans; it represents a kind of neglect and inevitably sets the stage for -- of course -- something terrible happening.

���� I don't actually want nothing to happen; but maybe I want specific kinds of things to not happen. What are they, and why?
